“Isn’t elegance forgetting what one is wearing?” — Yves Saint Laurent
My love for YSL started at a young age. I rescued a (now vintage) YSL leather belt from my dad’s bundle of garage sale items, and that was just the beginning. Watching this incredible brand evolve over the last few years has cultivated in me an interest and a curiosity about their reinvention.
I have collected some YSL beauty products over the years, but when Saks Fifth Avenue here in Richmond asked me to stop in for a makeover, I couldn’t resist!
I sat down with Sanya, one of TWO YSL beauty experts in the US to talk skincare and spring beauty. While I am experiencing a bit of a breakout due to the yo-yo weather (creams or serums?! oh my), she started our look with these incredible YSL skincare products (note: when she was done, my skin still felt naked!):
+ Youth Liberator Serum – lightweight, easy to apply. Sanya used her fingers for this product and almost patted the product into my skin
+ Youth Liberator Eye Cream – another lightweight favorite and works to refine those pesky puffy eyes over time!
+ Water in Oil – This product was sold out at the time of my visit, or else it would have come home with me!! It was a super soothing formula that she pat into my skin, and helped refine my pores and set a great foundation for our look
+ Touche Eclat Blur Primer – I can’t praise this guy enough! Little gold flecks and everything, this product paved the way for a super dewy look!
I requested a dewy and glowy natural makeup look for spring, but was open to trying new trends. Sanya made some incredible recommendations for products, even informing me of all the ways their foundation could be mixed with primers and oils to create some incredible natural no-makeup looks! We used the following (among others) to create the perfect shimmery makeover:
+ Touche Eclat Foundation – We mixed this with the Water in Oil and it created the most lightweight finish, with a medium/full coverage that felt as light as a BB/CC cream! It was incredible!
+ Touche Eclat Brightening pen – applied with bouncy fingertips, Sanya used this pen around the eyes, brows, lips, and cheeks. I own this product already and didn’t realize it had so many uses!
+ Couture Brow – We used this to get that Glossier boy brow look, a slightly undone and unmanicured bold brow. We mixed in a bit of of their brow shadow to help add depth and dimension.
+ Spring YSL Couture Collection Eye Palate – This palate had an incredible mix of shadows! From a glowy champagne to a rose gold shimmer, to a bold coral and deep navy. Talk about playing with colors! We used every shade, Sanya reminding me that YSL beauty challenges their consumers to to play with color, always! (a dare I rarely accept)
+ The Shock Mascara – we used the burgundy shade in this formula, and it gave both depth and dimension, with a fun pop of color! The perfect final touch to the look!
+ Rouge Volupté Oil In Stick – This lipstick (we used shade 44) was the perfect finishing touch! A bit of gloss and a bit of “your lips but better” pink, I fell in love with this shade instantly!
I had such a blast making messes at the beauty counter, and learning so many incredible things from Sanya! I can’t wait to work these incredible YSL products into my everyday routine! Be sure to stop by your local Saks this week for some invaluable help from any of their beauty experts, and don’t forget about their incredible deal going on when you spend $150 – you can snag an amazing tote bag and a ton of samples to fall in love with!
